Hey all !! Thanks for joining me this week in the Tech Tips icon_smile.gif This week, we'll look at how to create a PPPoE connection in Windows XP. PPPoE is the connection method that WTC Communications uses to provide our Turbo DSL. Modern Operating Systems, such as Microsoft Windows XP and Apple's MacOS X have the ability to create PPPoE connections, with no extra software needed. So, without further ado, on to the directions icon_smile.gif

1.) First off, you have to be logged in as an Administrative user. Rest assured, most of you will already have done this. If you found that you didn't log into your computer at all, then you don't have to worry about this.

2.) Click on Start, then click on Control Panel. You will then get a screen that looks similar to the one below:

3.) Click on Network and Internet Connections, then click on Network Connections. You will then see a screen similar to the one below:

4.) Click on Create New Connection. This will start the New Connection Wizard. Click on Next on the Welcome Screen, and you will be presented with a screen similar to the one below:

5.) Ensure that Connect to the Internet is selected, then click on Next. You will then see the following:

6.) Choose Set up my connection manually, then click on Next. You will see the following:

7.) Select Connect using a broadband connection that requires a user name and password, then click Next.

8.) Type 'WTC Communications' as the name of the connection, as below, then click Next:

9.) Type your email address as your User Name, and also fill in your password in both the Password and Confirm fields. Your screen will look similar to the one below:

NOTE: You may wish to disable the option to turn the Internet Connection firewall off. This option is not shown in the above screenshot. This firewall is still in it's infancy, and I have found that it can cause problems related to web connectivity.

Moving on ......

10.) Once you have clicked on Next from the User Name and Password screen, you will see the finish screen. You may wish to enable the option to create a shortcut for your connection. Once you have done that, click Finish and you're done !! The screen will look similar to the one below:

And that's it icon_smile.gif As you can see, it's not that difficult, and quite helpful to be able to have this ability built right in. As always, you can contact us here at the Technical Support department by phone at (613) 273-6939 or (613) 547-6939 option 5 or via email to Till the next tip icon_smile.gif
